We're hiring! Kemin is seeking a Senior Marketing Communications Specialist at our Des Moines Headquarters location. This position will plan and execute a wide array of strategic marketing efforts, both internal and external, in coordination with the broader marketing team, and under the direction of a Manager. This position will be part of Kemin Animal Nutrition and Health - North America, and will work closely with a number of species-specific field teams (primarily in beef, dairy, and equine). The ideal candidate will have experience in corporate or agency Marketing, Advertising, or Public Relations, preferably in the Animal Agriculture industry. 

This position is expected to work at our Des Moines campus, with the flexibility of a hybrid schedule. Work outside of traditional hours, such as overnight and weekends, is sometimes necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing a wide variety of marketing projects (including budgets and strategies); assisting in the development of strategic marketing plans, maintaining timelines, interfacing with media and managing editorial activities, and working closely with external marketing agency/vendor partners.
  • Lead the development of internal and external-facing collateral in partnership with species-team Marketing Managers, which help build and create brand and/or product awareness.
    • May include advertising and promotional activities, customer communications, web copy, social media content, technical literature, press releases, video content, direct mail, etc. Familiarity with a wide array of media types is needed.
    • Alongside Marketing Managers, develop and communicate target markets, customer positioning, and product launch plans.
  • Possess excellent copy-writing skills, including proofreading/technical editing and the ability to strictly adhere to all Kemin brand guidelines and regulatory requirements. 
  • The ability to understand and utilize new technologies is a must – this position will work with several software programs and internal Kemin systems that are nuanced.
  • Work collaboratively with a diverse staff team to create, oversee, and implement cross-organizational, integrated marketing strategies, and regulatory affairs to prepare and execute plans that support the market.
  • Must work to integrate efforts for minimum duplication of effort and maximum synergy.
  • Provide critical support for domestic and, potentially, international trade-shows and events in conjunction with the Sr. Marketing Events Specialist. This includes travel to various shows and events.
  • Work with various metrics and determine ROI on various department-related tactics, including customer-facing events and advertising; maintain several ongoing internal reports.
  • Possess the ability to execute responsibilities with regular autonomy and little direction and to communicate through a variety of channels (email, text, Teams, etc.) simultaneously. 

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Marketing, Communications, or Public Relations, with 5-7 years of experience (marketing agency and/or agriculture industry highly preferred)
  • Solid understanding and practical hands-on knowledge of various forms of interactive media, including but not limited to website enhancements & implementation, program development and execution, social media, SEO, etc., along with a deep understanding of marketing technologies, techniques, and best practices.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to set priorities and handle multiple projects efficiently to meet deadlines.
  • A reliable, flexible, self-starter with strong initiative and the ability to maintain a professional demeanor while working under pressure, as there is a high level of accountability for one’s work. 
  • High attention to detail, high accuracy, and some analytical abilities 
  • The ability to present ideas effectively and communicate well with customers, vendors, peers, and all levels of management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving skills, and critical-thinking skills. 
  • Solid financial skills with the ability to analytically evaluate and understand budget costs.
  • Advanced PC knowledge with MS Office and/or graphics software desired.
  • Must have a marketing mentality combined with marketing training and experience as it relates to marketing products in the industry, with the ability to gather key information and translate it into an exceptional promotional piece
  • A high degree of personal motivation, a desire to make an immediate contribution and possession of a distinct sense of urgency.
  • Maintaining effective strategic relationships with key partners, including external agencies, freelancers, and technology.
  • The role is responsible for building relationships with major trade publication editors to position Kemin as an adviser and content source for technical and industry issues.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing work environment.
