Overview

Kemin Animal Nutrition & Health is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Product Manager. This role is pivotal in managing and strategizing the marketing of our intestinal health product portfolio. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall management and product marketing strategy for several products within the platform, supporting the product lifecycle of each product.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive marketing strategies and platform marketing plans to drive sales and profitability of the intestinal health portfolio.
  • Oversee the product lifecycle, from development to market launch, ensuring adherence to high product standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to introduce new products and identify cost reduction opportunities.
  • Ensure continuous improvement and growth of the intestinal health platform.

  • Proven experience in product management, preferably within the animal health and/or animal nutrition industry.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.

Location:

  • This position can be based in the office or remotely.
    • In-office at our worldwide headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa
    • Remote with 50%+ travel

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrated track record of managing products and achieving budget.
  • Responsible for leading global product strategy, including strategic marketing and new business development.
  • Oversee product line life cycles from strategic planning through to tactical implementation.
  • Maximize market share and gross margin growth for product line(s) to maximize revenue, gross, and market share.
  • Responsible for setting pricing strategy, including pricing and volume discount schedules.
  • Lead the development of communication plans (positioning, target, tactics) and packaging.
  • With consultation of the marketing director, marketing staff, and the commercial team, develop, publish, and communicate the annual marketing plan for assigned products.
  • Conduct market analysis to monitor competitive products, sales, market share, and marketing activities; deploy category knowledge and understanding to manage product lines effectively.
  • Translate research data into product performance updates, technical bulletins, and sales/marketing.
  • Provide marketing expertise, support, and education to the commercial team for successful sales.
  • Manage advertising and promotion activities, including print, point-of-sale, online, electronic media, and direct mail (as applicable).
  • Create and make presentations to customers at the request of the commercial sales team.
  • Develop and provide input to reports that track and measure key performance indicators.
  • Drive Product Innovation through new product concept submissions, as well as champion products throughout the launch process.
  • Drive cross-functional product development teams, leading to the launch of new products within the portfolio.
  • Lead customer strategy with commercial sales teams.
  • Develop and manage global strategic alliances, and negotiate and support the terms of commercial deals with these alliances.
  • Responsible for mentoring and training the product management team.
  • Develop and maintain a consistent corporate image across all product lines, promotional materials, and events.
  • Collaborate with Research and Development and Technical Services to further enhance the product story through targeted product research initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Education and experience requirements:
    • Masters of Business Administration (MBA), with an Animal Science background, 7+ years of related Product Management experience.
    • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing and Animal Science background, with 10+ years of related experience.
    • At least 3+ years of related Project Management work (PMP certification is preferred).
    • High-potential candidates with less experience may be considered for a role commensurate with their skills and work history.
  • Accomplished animal ag industry knowledge and experience.
  • Background must include strategic marketing experience.
  • Must be a proactive, self-motivated, energetic, business-minded manager with a broad scientific/technical aptitude knowledge base who is able to provide product leadership, set priorities, delegate responsibilities, and meet timetables leading to the attainment of growth goals.
    • Experience as an effective product manager, project team player, leader, and motivator, and the ability to present ideas effectively and communicate well with customers, peers, and all levels of management.
  • Demonstrated achievement of product sales objectives and financial goals.
  • Strong cross-functional team, leadership, and interpersonal skills to be able to work effectively in a diverse team environment.
  • Strong financial skills, especially the ability to understand financial statements and to analytically evaluate and understand product costs, margin, pricing, and market share.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
  • Requires a marketing mentality combined with marketing training and experience as it relates to marketing products in the industry.
  • Demonstrated integrity and honesty in all.
  • A good understanding of the chemical and biological sciences as they apply to the production of company-specific products; an understanding of the products Kemin sells and the technology used in the micro-ingredient nutritional portion of the industry.
